There is a possibility that we are in the path of a hurricane this week.
(We’ll come back to that thought…)
I just woke up from a dream, and then I just couldn’t go back to sleep when I was reminded of a childhood memory…
When I was a child I wanted to be a meteorologist when I grew up so that I could help to warn and protect people against the storms, specifically the tornadoes.
Why specifically tornadoes?
Because I was mortified, TERRIFIED of tornadoes when I was a little child. I had never even been through a tornado, and yet I was consumed with a fear of them for quite a while. I remember looking out the window on a beautiful sunny day when I’d see a weird cloud and I’d say, “Oh! I think I see a tornado! Oh no! Come look!” and it would be nothing but a weird shaped cloud on a sunny day. I didn’t know what weather conditions to even to look for, I had never been through a tornado, but I was consumed with the fear of one. Thought about them all the time. Thought I saw them all the time… It was even kind of a joke that I was the kid who was consumed with and terrified of tornadoes ALL THE TIME.
The meteorologist was my hero. I could watch her on TV during a storm and she was so calm and so collected, not afraid, and she was in that TV studio during this storm in the late hours of the evening and she was bravely telling people where the storm was headed and if there was a tornado nearby, or if one was likely. OH MY GOODNESS and when she would go out into the storm to report Live, wow –she was braver than Wonder Woman to me.
All of that being said… today is 9/11, and that reminded me of Psalm 91:1, my “911” passage…
Psalm 91 is a prayer of “Protection” and it’s alive and real… there is something about that passage that is getting deep into my soul a little more every day.
To bring all of this back together, we are in the potential path of a hurricane this week. I am thankful to know that I am protected. I am sheltered. There is nothing to fear. That goes for every kind of situation –fears that are big and fears that are even bigger – doesn’t matter, I am not to fear them.
Psalm 91 New King James Version (NKJV)
Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”
