“In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” – Luke 22:20
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really liked to think of “blood”, do you?
For me, it’s hard to look at a wound or a cut that’s bleeding. When I look at “blood” on the outside of the body, I think of “death”….
But “blood”, in and of itself, is life. Life is in the blood.
“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” – Leviticus 17:11
When I think of Jesus on the cross, how He shed His blood, how He allowed the “life”, the blood to be drained out of Himself on the cross…. for us.
That loss of blood meant “death” for Him in that moment…
…and yet it means “life” for us. ?
When I think of Jesus pouring out His life, His blood for us, I think of “death”. And it was death for Him in that moment in time, but for us it means LIFE! His blood means life in every. single. way you can possibly look at it, and in every other way that we can’t even comprehend yet.
“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” – Hebrews 9:14
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” – Ephesians 1:7
The “life” that is in His blood –I just think of the “power” that was poured out into the earth that day… what it meant and what it means to all of us. How valuable that blood is. Not only does it cleanse us of our sins, not only does it redeem us, but it also brings us “life” in every way we can possibly apply it to our lives. Eternal life, and “life” in every single life situation while living here. It’s bigger than we can comprehend.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” – 1 Peter 1:3
Thank You, Jesus. I just don’t have the words to say to thank You enough. ? What You did for us, is just so much bigger than we can comprehend. Help us to better understand how we can apply the “life” in the blood You shed for us – in all situations of our lives.
