5.3.19 – The Truth of His Faithfulness

Have you ever walked right into a swarm of bugs?

Suddenly you’re bombarded, you’re swatting left and right, struggling to see, trying not to breathe them in, trying not to accidentally eat a bug, and hoping to not get bitten to pieces.

This morning as I sat down with the Lord, I started to think of how His truth, His Word, the truth of His faithfulness is like a “shield” of relief when the lies are “swarming” around us.

The truth of His faithfulness is a relief in a swarm of lies.

Psalm 91:4 says,

“…His truth shall be your shield and buckler”

What is a shield made for?

“The very nature of a shield is to protect. It protects you from danger, risk or other unpleasant experience.”

Not only does a shield protect, it also deflects back onto the enemy –  pushing back powerfully.

A “buckler” is a different kind of shield that is smaller, it’s able to be used in defending in the day-to-day, while a larger “shield” is used for larger-scale battles.

His truth, the truth of His faithfulness, and our faith in His truth is like a shield and a buckler –protective, and used in pushing back, guarding against, and deflecting the flying arrows of the enemy.

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” – Ephesians 6:16

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32

I lived so much of my life not using this shield. The swarm of lies just about tore me to pieces. What a relief it is to now see the truth, to lean on the truth, to have faith in His truth, and to know the truth of His faithfulness.

Thank you, Lord.
