5.23.19 – Standing on the Promises

“And it will be said in that day:
‘Behold, this is our God;
We have waited for Him, and He will save us.
This is the Lord;
We have waited for Him;
We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.'” – Isaiah 25:9

Wow, isn’t that passage of scripture just so full of hope and excitement for when we can say, “Look and see what our God has done! Look at how wonderful He is! We waited for Him and He came to our rescue just like He said He would!”

But You know, even while we’re waiting on His rescue, even when we’re in the midst of struggle or weariness we can remain in a place of excitement for what we know He will do. We can thank Him and praise Him for what He has done, we can begin to praise Him for what He will do in advance. Somehow this does something that we cannot see.

It’s faith. Faith that pleases God!

Our God does what He says He will do. He is trustworthy.

In these times when we don’t think we can stand any longer because of weariness, discouragement, health issues, trials — anything. Some of us have cried out, “How long, Lord? How much longer must I endure this?”

It is in that moment of weakness and hardship that we must boldly declare and proclaim our trust in our God and we will be able to stand on His promises.

To the world it may seem foolish. But the truth is…

It’s powerful.

We have a God who comes through! We have a God who keeps His promises!

For the past few months every so often I’ve been hearing the lines, “Standing, standing…standing on the promises of God…” playing in my head, so I looked it up and thought I’d post it on here:

“Standing on the Promises of Christ my King” by Russell Kelsey Carter 1886

“Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God.”
