I was sitting at my dining room table talking with the Lord the other afternoon, and I asked Him a question…
And even before I finished asking my question a mourning dove flew up and pounded its wings onto the window making a loud noise. (Don’t worry, she’s fine, she flew away!)
This certainly got my attention and when I went over and looked, I noticed it left a smudge mark on the window, perhaps from the rain we were having that day –kind of a smudge “print” of wings on the window.
I started to write down what happened and looked again and the dove came back and was sitting at the window curiously looking in.
Then, as I look to my left out my other window I see another dove sitting on the power line looking in.
One thing I’m discovering in my journey with the Lord, is that He often speaks to me in symbols. I’ll notice things around me in a way that I normally would not pay any special attention to. Sometimes it’s something that becomes a pattern of a symbol that I will often pay special attention to, and I’ll know that the Holy Spirit is highlighting something to me. I’ll take special notice and a lot of times revelation will come.
I love that He knows how I’m wired (why does this always seem to surprise and amaze me?) He knows how I take notice of things, and He often teaches me things through His creation and through symbols.
It’s happening all around us, the opportunity is there, He’s showing us things and speaking to us all the time. He’s ready and willing to give us eyes to see and ears that hear.
I love how incredibly personal He is, how He knows each of His children so intimately.
He knows we think and how we see things. He knows the best way to get our attention. I love how He can get our attention and show us such profound revelation through the simplest things. He teaches us in ways that help us to truly learn about His character and His ways.
Thank you, Lord. You’re wonderful. Thank you for drawing close and taking the time to teach us really awesome things about who You are and the things You’re doing in the earth. Thank you for taking me on a journey into Your heart and into Your ways.

May I suggest “Weariness” as another category? It’s tough to keep ourselves up/pull ourselves up when our trials drag on and on. Encouragement from others is sometimes well-meaning, but can be repetitive and meaningless. How do we “stir ourselves up”?
Hello Irene, thank you for your comment! I too face “weariness” at times, some times more often than others. It can be a challenge to keep pressing forward through the trials. I think of David, and how in Samuel it says that David “encouraged himself in the Lord” and I think of what that means…”I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Ps. 34:1-4, NKJV) – There is something powerful about praising God through the trials. Sometimes all I can say is, “God I trust you.” and it does something within me that helps me to keep going, because I know that He is faithful to keep His promises. And He will never leave us or forsake us. Bless you, Irene. I pray that you will be uplifted and encoueaged today in Jesus name!
