This morning I kind of went on a “scripture adventure/ treasure hunt”. Thought maybe I’ll just document it here and let you guys discover the depth of a couple of verses along with me. I love it when the Lord leads me to a scripture and then one thing leads to another and then to another and then to another, leading to deeper understanding.
This morning I was first drawn to Jeremiah 33:6-9, specifically verse 6,
“‘Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.” (NIV)
Did you know that the word “Health” is properly the fresh skin which grows over a healing wound? In my bible notes it says that “health” is literally “new flesh”.
I love the KJV as well,
“Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.”
Also in the footnotes of my bible it says that the word “abundance” in this verse is related to the Hebrew word for “crown” or “diadem” which means “treasures“.
I don’t know a lot about the Darby Bible Translation, but I like to compare the wording,
“Behold, I will apply a healing dressing to it and cure, and I will heal them, and will reveal unto them an abundance of peace and truth.”
Then I shifted and zeroed in on this verse in Isaiah, 58:8 that I think it just absolutely beautiful, it’s almost as if I can feel the light of dawn this verse speaks of…
“Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.” – Isaiah 58:8
I love the wording in the New Living Translation,
“Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind.“
And the King James Version… wow…
“Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward.”
New American Standard Bible,
“Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will speedily spring forth; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.”
And the Good News Translation,
“Then my favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side.“
In Isaiah 58 it continues in verse 9,
“Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say,
‘Here I am.’“
…in verses 11-12…
“And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.“
What a beautiful passage. Lord, I don’t know exactly the fullness of what You are speaking to me this morning, but these verses reached me in a deep place. Thank you, Father.
