6.15.19 – Seeking His Face

I’ve been thinking on what it means to “seek God’s face”…

How is this different than seeking His hand?

How is this different than seeking His wisdom?

How is this different than seeking His guidance for my life?

How is this different than seeking His miracles? Gifts? Rewards?

I’ve come to the understanding that it’s about the true intention of my heart.

“Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God.” -1 Chronicles 22:19

I am coming to this understanding and realization that when we seek His “face” we are truly seeking Him.

We are seeking Him. We are seeking His nearness, His presence. His character. Him.

Would you rather a person love you, who you are? Or to love and seek primarily what you can do for them?

When a person loves you, regardless of what you could or would do for them, doesn’t it make you want to give them the world, doesn’t it make you want to give them everything anyway? Doesn’t it warm your heart and make you feel so cherished and loved?

God is capable of giving us eternity. He has abundance in His hand. He has infinite depth in His heart.

He knows our hearts better than we know our own hearts. He knows what our hearts are truly seeking. Oh just think of His pleasure when our hearts truly seek Him because we love Him and we just want to be with Him…

“Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?” – Psalm  15:1

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” – Matthew 5:8

“In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him” -Psalm 10:4

Realizing this, and realizing that, more often than not in my life, I have been seeking what He can do for me, rather than who He is, rather than seeking just…Him. It has caused me to examine my own heart, it has caused me to think differently about this. It has caused me to think, “how would I want to be loved?

And yes, we are to ask Him for what He has for us as His children, but as I have realized what “seeking His face” means, I understand how seeking His face is so pleasing and honoring to Him.

All of what He can “do for me” pales in comparison to just being with Him, and seeking more of Him, and dwelling in His presence.

“God be gracious to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us– Selah.” – Psalm 67:1

“I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord GOD.” – Ezekiel 39:29

“…they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.” – Revelation 22:4
