“Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you. Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in obedience to Him and revering Him.” – Deuteronomy 8:5-6
The Lord teaches us in all different kinds of ways, doesn’t He?
Sometimes we learn by taking heed of His Word, and if we listen and obey, our way goes well.
“Be careful to obey all these words that I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the LORD your God.” – Deuteronomy 12:28
Sometimes the Holy Spirit gives us and teaches us what we need to know in that moment, and we know exactly what we should do.
“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.” – John 14:26
…And sometimes our Heavenly Father takes us through a situation where we can learn every. single. part. — inside and out, “learning through” it in the most thorough way…. and sometimes that includes His correction.
“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.” – Revelation 3:19
Note: This isn’t always the easiest way to learn a lesson, but sometimes it’s the most necessary for reasons we often cannot understand in the moment.
Oh God, help me to always remain teachable, because I’m so thankful for the lessons, for the things I get to learn with You! You have reasons for the different ways You teach us and lead us through this life. You know the best ways to teach us and show us things that help us to understand.
“Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.” – Job 5:17-18
In the midst of learning how to live this life, the enemy will try to get in there with all kinds of garbage, but the Lord will guard our hearts and keep us moving forward when we fix our eyes upon Him — when we decide to tune all of the garbage out, to leave it all behind us.
Oh Lord, will You help me to keep my heart tender and pure? I know that’s a “yes” from You, God. Thank You for always showing me the things I need to be aware of. Thank You for faithfully leading me back into the warmth of Your heart.??
