This morning, I felt the need to push away everything, and just come before the Lord as quietly as I could, simply just waiting before Him. Pushing away anything that has been on my mind –questions, wonderings, issues, requests… just pushing all of that away.
As I came before Him, I realized that all of these things kept trying to come back into my mind, and I had to push them away again and again. It was a struggle this morning. I even found myself having to push away, “Lord, what am I to write about today?“
Finally I felt myself break open, and I was able to simply “be” there before Him, remembering and realizing yet again, that I get to come before my Heavenly Father in this way, just to love Him, to declare my trust in Him, and to thank Him for being Him. Just to dwell with Him and spend my time with Him.
Then suddenly after this, I was led to a verse in Job,
“Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, And how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?” – Job 26:14
Then I thought to myself, our God is “wonderfully peculiar” isn’t He? ??☀️
Isn’t no wonder that as we grow closer with Him, and as we become more and more like Jesus, and as the Holy Spirit teaches us and leads us….as we are “transformed” we too become more “peculiar” like Him… (You know they say, that we often tend to become more like those we spend a lot of our time with.)
Many times the word, “peculiar” is used in kind of a negative way. What does the word, “peculiar” mean?
It can mean,
unusual, unexpected, different, out of the ordinary, exceptional, rare, extraordinary, remarkable, puzzling, mysterious, uncommon, perplexing, baffling, special
Reminds me of this verse in 1 Peter 2:9,
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” (KJV)
And I also love the NKJV translation…
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”
Look at the way it reads in The Passion Translation,
“But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world.”
He says that He created us to be “peculiar” as well.
He created us to be, “unusual, unexpected, different, out of the ordinary, exceptional, rare, extraordinary, remarkable, puzzling, mysterious, uncommon, perplexing, baffling, special…”
“Set apart as God’s devoted ones.” – Wow.
And yet…
As it says in Job, “Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways…”
