This morning, Lord highlighted the word “express” to me, and then He led me into the study of the word “express” and deeper into the word “expression.” As I type this, I have no idea why or where this is going…
express
- convey (a thought or feeling) in words or by gestures and conduct.
- say or otherwise communicate what one thinks or means.
- represent (a number, relation, or property) by a figure, symbol, or formula.
- squeeze out
Synonyms: communicate, convey, show, demonstrate, reveal, manifest, make manifest, exhibit, articulate, put into words, voice, give voice to, utter, pronounce, verbalize, word, phrase, render, frame, state, proclaim, profess, air, vent, say, tell, speak, mouth, point out, illustrate, symbolize, signify, embody
Then I think of the God, and His heart, and His Word…
And I also think of Jesus and His purpose in the earth…
And I think of how the Lord uses words, and utterances, and symbols, and illustrations, and makes “expressions”…
“Expression” is a word that also means,
“uttering, voicing, pronouncement, declaration, articulation, statement, verbalization, announcement, setting forth, mouthing, broadcast, circulation, communication, spreading, publicizing, publication, demonstration, show, exhibition, manifestation, conveyance, revelation…”
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” – Hebrews 1:3 (Christian Standard Bible)
“…who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…” – Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV)
Jesus is God’s “expression” to us. ❤️
We are created to be used as an “expression” of God too.
We are created to: communicate, convey, show, demonstrate, reveal, exhibit, articulate, put into words, voice, give voice to, utter, pronounce, verbalize, word, phrase, render, frame, state, proclaim, profess, air, vent, say, tell, speak, mouth, point out, illustrate, symbolize, signify, embody…
To represent the Lord by: “uttering, voicing, pronouncement, declaration, articulation, statement, verbalization, announcement, setting forth, mouthing, broadcast, circulation, communication, spreading, publicizing, publication, demonstration, show, exhibition, manifestation, conveyance, revelation…”
Isn’t that amazing? (And “unbelievable” and “mind-blowing” to think of this reality?) To think that this is His way, what He wants to do, with imperfect, broken vessels like us.
Even when we see ourselves as “unusable, unnecessary, and too broken to be of any value,” He sees us as valuable, needed, and necessary to express His love, to broadcast who He is…to a dark world, in desperate need of seeing and experiencing His Light.
(Yea, I’m going to need to ponder this one a little longer…)
