10.24.19 – God’s Storyline

Over the last couple of days, I’ve been thinking, and marveling over the fact that God has written a book about my life.

He has a “storyline” that He’s created for me, a good and perfectly written, intentional storyline… and yet it’s up to me to use my will to step into His perfect storyline for my life.

“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” -Psalm 139:16 NLT

“My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.” – Psalm 139:15 NIV

Here’s a passage from Psalm 139 in The Passion Translation, I believe the Lord is drawing me to this particular Psalm because He brought it to my attention during the day yesterday, and again last night…

Lord, you know everything there is to know about me.
You perceive every movement of my heart and soul,
and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.
3–4 You are so intimately aware of me, Lord.
You read my heart like an open book
and you know all the words I’m about to speak
before I even start a sentence!
You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.
You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way,
and in kindness you follow behind me

to spare me from the harm of my past.
With your hand of love upon my life,
you impart a blessing to me.
6 This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible!
Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.”

Just as He has “woven” each of us individually, He is also “weaving” our stories together, so mysteriously….our books that He’s written about each of us. He’s even weaving all of those into His story about us all. We all get to have a part in His storyline, He has invited us. He’s gathering together, He’s so intricately connecting dots and pieces of the puzzle all the time within our lives. He’s doing it constantly, and all the time.

13 You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside
and my intricate outside,
and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.
14 I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex!
Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking.
It simply amazes me to think about it!
How thoroughly you know me, Lord!
15 You even formed every bone in my body
when you created me in the secret place,
carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something.
16 You saw who you created me to be before I became me!
Before I’d ever seen the light of day,
the number of days you planned for me
were already recorded in your book.

17–18 Every single moment you are thinking of me!
How precious and wonderful to consider
that you cherish me constantly in your every thought!
O God, your desires toward me are more
than the grains of sand on every shore!

When I awake each morning, you’re still with me.”

And when we begin to step off the path of our “storyline” He so wonderfully calls us back onto the path, He so wonderfully guides us and leads us. He so wonderfully helps us to take the next step.

As much as I love making my own plans, I’m so thankful when the Lord guides me into His plans, giving me the opportunity to scrap my own plan to follow His perfect plan.

23 God, I invite your searching gaze into my heart.
Examine me through and through;

find out everything that may be hidden within me.
Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares.
24 See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on,
and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting ways—
the path that brings me back to you.

He has written a beautiful story about my life, He has good plans for my life — plans to give me a hope and a future, and a purpose, and a destiny.

But it’s up to me to follow His storyline, His perfect and wonderful storyline for my life that somehow fits into the storyline of the story of everything.

Isn’t that amazing? How does He do that??

“Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking.
It simply amazes me to think about it!” (v14)

Thank You, Lord. ??

“With your hand of love upon my life,
you impart a blessing to me.
6This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible!
Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.” (v5-6)
