The Lord highlighted Isaiah 57:15 to me in my bible last night, and this morning I felt led to digging into some other translations to see if I could get a deeper understanding and broader picture of the meaning…

Here is the version I first read from, the NJKV,

“For thus says the High and Lofty One 
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, 
To revive the spirit of the humble, 
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” 

“Our holy God lives forever in the highest heavens, and this is what he says: Though I live high above in the holy place, I am here to help those who are humble and depend only on me.” (Contemporary English Version)

This is the Good News Translation,

“…I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are humble and repentant, so that I can restore their confidence and hope.“

Wow! God says that He “lives with the people who are humble and repentant” and that He “restores their confidence and hope!” Our God, Most High and Holy God –prefers to dwell with the lowly in spirit. He says that He dwells with the humble and revives their hearts. ❤️

Here is how the Amplified Bible translates it,

“I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the thoroughly penitent [bruised with sorrow for sin].”

There is something about this verse that so comforts me and gives me hope. It also feels like God is really wanting to convey something here…. He is saying that He is the High and Lofty One, who dwells in eternity– and yet He is with the humble and those who “depend only on Him.” WOW. I mean, yes, we know that God is with us, we know that He loves all of His creation, but I think this is showing us something about God’s heart, it’s showing us about something that He loves and honors so much that He wants to dwell with these kinds of hearts. It’s showing us that God’s heart is to “dwell” with those who are humble and have repentant hearts, those who are “bruised with sorrow for sin.”

Wow, God. I love getting to know You through Your Word! Thank You for revealing this part of who You are to us in Your Word.

“For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell {on} a high and holy place, And {also} with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.” (NASB)
