There is something significant and “final” about today –December 31st of 2019.
Something about this day makes me want to be especially careful with my words about 2019, honoring everything God did within this last year, remaining thankful for it, appreciative, and honoring of every single moment.
Today is the day of crossing over from 2019 into a brand new 2020, and I want to go into this new year with gratitude, a sense of victory, and appreciation for what 2019 has taught me.
As I sat down this morning, I began to reflect on the last year.
The pages of my journal turned into this timeline of 2019 with monumental moments noted, the year sectioned out into “themes” and moments we went through, lessons learned… and I began to see the year as more of a full picture, a beautiful timeline of what God has taken us through. ?
At times the direction of our lives seemed and felt uncertain in 2019, but God saw the full picture all along. He has been our covering all along, even when it felt like we were living in a danger zone, we were fully covered and protected.
I’m grateful for the lessons that we have learned this year, but most of all, as I sit here and look at this timeline of 2019, as I look at this picture of all the monumental moments each part of the year has brought us through, I am grateful, I am hopeful, and I am ready to step into 2020 “strengthened” and “solidified”….
That’s the word the Lord spoke to me about what 2019 has been for us, what it has done….
I had to look it up, even though I knew that it is a kind of “strengthening”.
“to make stronger; reinforce.”
If there is one main take-away from this year, it is that God can use every kind of life circumstance to make us stronger in our relationship with Him.
Yes the trials and struggles and challenges can risk “hardening our hearts” if we allow that to happen, but if we allow God do what He wants to do, to shape us with these kinds of life challenges, it will only further “solidify” and “reinforce” our relationship with Him.
Do you know the verse we went into 2019 with?
“It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.” – Psalm 18:32
“It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” (NIV)
“He is the God who makes me strong, who makes my pathway safe.” (GNT)
“The one true God gives me strength; he removes the obstacles in my way.” (NET Bible)
When we take His hand, when we cling to His arm, when we trust Him to guide us, we never have to worry about being taken off the path for our lives. We never have to fret or second guess or be worried about getting off track for our lives, because He is trustworthy to take us through any kind of obstacle, any kind of trial or challenge we face. He is faithful to take us right through whatever challenges us, whatever that could be for our lives, and we will safely be kept on our path. He’s always “getting us there.”
Then we’ll be able to look back and reflect on all the times of uncertainty, and maybe even times of danger, and we will be able to see where God was moving and working and protecting and guarding us the whole time. ?
2019 has been a year that has fortified and strengthened, and solidified our foundations. ???✨
I am excited to see what 2020 will bring. ??✨☀️
Thank You, Lord. ☀️
