I felt led to sharing this hymn this morning…
This one gives me chills every time I hear it sung from within a congregation —all the voices all around me, singing and “calling” together—joining together with the will and desire of His heart. ?It’s more powerful than perhaps we realize.
It’s like the singing of this song, is doing far more than we realize as we’re singing it from our hearts, because it’s a “call” that is in alignment with His heart. It’s doing something very deep in the unseen realm, as a prayer, a calling to the lost from His very heart — the sweetest, most tender-loving invitation to come back home to Him.
How He is calling “softly and tenderly”… and at the same time, there is a “pleading”… He does not want anyone to get what they “deserve”… He does not want anyone to miss out on what He has in store for their lives. He does not want anyone to miss out on His beautiful plan and purpose for the earth, and for eternity. He does not want anyone to miss out on experiencing His love, and knowing and loving His truth through and through.
Softly and Tenderly
by Will Lamartine Thompson
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!O for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home, come home, come home,Come home!
