6.15.2020 – Understanding that can only come from Him

Have you ever heard someone tell a joke, and until they explain it to you, you just can’t seem to get it? You just don’t see it?

Maybe it’s just me, but I usually don’t get “manufactured jokes.” My brain isn’t always the quickest. Every now and then I’ll get what they call a simple and cheesy “dad joke”… haha.

But isn’t it something how no matter how hard we may try to “get something” it just doesn’t come sometimes until we gain some understanding and a “light switch is turned on” to reveal a different perspective that we are then able to see……

How closed my mind can be, when I’m only seeing within my own perspective.

Sometimes God has “spelled it out” for me and yet still I don’t “get it” until He makes a way for me to be able to “grasp it” within my heart and within my spirit —until He turns the light on for me to be able to see it.

It’s kind of like with a dream…. I could toss around my ideas of what a dream could mean, I could pull apart every symbol and look it all up and then piece it all back together and still get nothing in my own understanding…. not until the Holy Spirit opens the meaning and gives me understanding. Then it’s all right there and I’m able to see it… ?☀️

One minute, I “can’t see it” the next second, it’s “just right there.”

Isn’t that amazing? No wonder He asks us to seek Him first. I can’t get there with any kind of attempt of my own….what a waste of time for me to keep trying in my own strength (though thankfully He can redeem all of my attempts and mistakes!)

And isn’t that such a good reminder that I should not lean too much on my own understanding and my own perspective…

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.” —1 Corinthians 2:12-14

Thankfully, we are invited to ask…He wants to give understanding to His children!

“For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding…” —Colossians 1:9

“But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.” —Job 32:8

“Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.”—2 Timothy 2:7

One thing I’ve noticed in my own life is that understanding doesn’t always come exactly when I’d like it to…but He’s always got a good reason for His timing, and He’s taking me somewhere, He’s teaching me stuff, He’s “growing me” and leading me toward that place where I am learning to long for His way… and then He makes a way, so that suddenly I can begin to grasp and “understand” just enough of His ways that keeps me seeking and hungering for more —a life-long journey of learning how to see from His heavenly perspective in situation after situation, after situation….

And He really makes it so simple….

…simply learning to walk with Him in the light, and learning to trust Him, and learning to lean on His way and not my own.

A life-long journey that goes right into eternity…

What an adventure…

Thank You, Lord. ?☀️
