8.26.2020 – “What’s weighing you down?”

“What are you carrying that’s too heavy… for you to be carrying?”

That’s the question I heard this morning…

What happens when we attempt to carry something that’s too heavy for us to be able to carry?

What heavy thing do you have weighing on your shoulders?

What heavy thing is weighing your feet down into the ground?

What heavy thing is causing your knees to buckle?

Could it be that this was never a thing that you were meant to carry in this way?

Could it be that it was never a thing that you were meant to allow on your shoulders like this?

“Am I attempting to use my own strength to carry something that is heavy enough to crush me?”

“This is the kind of fast that I desire:
Remove the heavy chains of oppression!
    Stop exploiting your workers!
Set free the crushed and mistreated!
Break off every yoke of bondage!

Share your food with the hungry!
    Provide for the homeless
and bring them into your home!
    Clothe the naked!
Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!
Then my favor will bathe you in sunlight
until you are like the dawn bursting through a dark night.
And then suddenly your healing will manifest.

You will see your righteousness march out before you,
and the glory of Yahweh will protect you from all harm!” —Isaiah 58:6-8 TPT

How many times do we not even realize that we are attempting to carry things that are too heavy for us to be carrying?

Could these heavy things be taking a tole? Could they be hindering? Could this heavy burden be causing distortion to my frame? Destruction to my bones…

“So here’s what I’ve learned through it all:
Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord,
and measureless grace will strengthen you
.” —Psalm 55:22 TPT

Father, will You reveal the things that I’m trying to carry, that are not really meant for me to carry? Can you reveal the things that I’m carrying, the things that are weighing me down? Show me the things I need to let go of, the things I need to hand over to You, the things I need to release from my shoulders. God, I let go of these things, I let them fall off my shoulders. I can’t do this life using my own strength—my strength is weak, but You are strong. You lift these heavy burdens and give me rest from the heavy things I am carrying…. the things I was never meant to carry in this way.

“The Lord deserves praise! Day after day he carries our burden, the God who delivers us. Our God is a God who delivers; the LORD, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death.”—Psalm 68:19-20

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress any my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” —Psalm 18: 1-3

God, You are so faithful to deliver us from destruction and harm. You take us from destruction and death to life and freedom, in every area of our lives. Thank You, Lord. ☀️

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”—Matthew 11:28–30
