As I was listening to a teaching message yesterday, I heard a quote that just jumped out at me and stuck with me…
“...but if you’re not purged of that which would stop you from saying ‘yes” (to God)… the reason why God put you here will never happen. You have to be purged of that which would stop you…and for every gift, there is a seed of its own demise. You are being purged of that seed.” —John Paul Jackson
I believe this is precisely what God has been taking me through these last few years. Well—at least part of what God has been taking me through.
It’s part of the process God has been leading me through.
But I also believe He’s doing it within the body of Christ, and within our nation.
He’s “purging” us of things that will hinder His will being done.
He’s “purging us” to get us out of our own way, and out of His way.
To “purge” means,
- rid (someone or something) of an unwanted quality, condition, or feeling.
- remove (a group of people considered undesirable) from an organization or place in an abrupt or violent way.
In one way, I don’t really like the sound of the word “purge”…. I mean, it’s a word that sounds a little uncomfortable and painful, but at the same time—it’s necessary. On the other hand, it sounds a bit like “relief” doesn’t it? At least, after the “purging” part.
When we pray, “Father, Your will be done in my life! Your will be done in the earth!”…. this is a powerful prayer.
And as a loving Father, God is going to act on this prayer—with so much love…that He is going to purge us of anything and everything that could be hiding within our hearts that could take us out of His will for our lives.
“Purging” is not a pleasant process.
It can be a painful process.
But He does it because He loves us, and because He is a good Father…
…And because He has a really good plan. ☀️✍?
He’s a Father that cares about the plans He’s created for us to walk in, and He’s aware of things we cannot see and understand.
And He knows that this “purging” will allow us to walk in a life of purpose—in His purpose.
As we say ‘yes’ to Him.
“Father, Your will be done…”
So Father, thank You for this “purging” that You do in our hearts and in our lives.
You’re faithful to remove the things that hinder us. You’re faithful to reveal the things that need to be uprooted, things that could cause us to stumble and crumble and fall.
And Father, we may not fully understand and comprehend what it means when we pray, “Father, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…”
…but You do. ?☀️
And You’re going to see it through.
Let us not waste time by running from it, Lord. Help us to “get on with it”…
There is much to do, and You’re ready to see us through.
Lord, do the work in us that only You can do. ✨
“Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.“—1 Corinthians 5:7
“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.“—2 Timothy 2:21
Thank You, Father. ?
