The Lord has brought my attention to “light” again this morning…
And I’m not exactly sure why, but I’m going with it…we’ll see…
Do you remember this little Sunday School children’s song?
“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shineJesus is the Light, I’m gonna let Him shine
Jesus is the Light, I’m gonna let Him shine
Jesus is the Light, I’m gonna let Him shine
Let Him shine, let Him shine, let Him shine“
I’m hearing it play in my head this morning…
And I’m reminded, as I turn to Matthew 5:14-16 and 6:22-23, that God didn’t create us so that we would hide ourselves, and our “light”… away—
He didn’t design us that we would waste away in the “comfort and safety” of our “caves”…
Sure, there are seasons—yes, there are times and seasons that He hides us….
Sometimes He takes us into a place of being rather “unseen” or “unnoticed”…
But that’s different than us hiding ourselves away.
That’s different than us covering up the light we have within us—His light.
How I want to “hide myself away” sometimes.
The desire to “just hide away” can be strong in me, sometimes—because to be honest, it feels safe. It feels like the “safer” option.
…and it comes and goes…
But do you know that God is able to give us more safety than we can ever give ourselves?
He knows the way. He knows what is good. He knows the best plans.
Sometimes the safest “safe” is being saved from our own selves, and our own ideas, and our own ways.
“Your lives light up the world. Let others see your light from a distance, for how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop? And who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light. So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that the commendable things you do will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.”—Matthew 5:14-15 TPT
We were created, to be His “children of light”….
“For you are all children of the light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night nor to darkness. This is why we must not fall asleep, as the rest do, but keep wide awake and clearheaded. For those who are asleep sleep the night away, and drunkards get drunk at night.”—1 Thessalonians 5:5-7 TPT
A people designed to be, and to LIVE His “beacon of truth” into the earth…
His “beacon of hope”…
His “beacon of light” into the world.
He is the Light! And He lives within us!
Light is meant to shine, isn’t it?
“…So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that the commendable things you do will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:16
And you know, it’s safe here in His light—our sins aren’t safe, but we are. ?☀️
“…We don’t belong to the night nor to darkness. This is why we must not fall asleep, as the rest do, but keep wide awake and clearheaded.” —1 Thessalonians 5:5-7 TPT
Father, thank You for drawing us into Your light, that we might be Your “children of light”… that’s how You designed us to be, thats how You designed us to live. Teach us how to shine Your light, Lord. Help us to take care of “this little light of mine” that we will be able to bravely and boldly, “let it shine”….into our lives, and into this world.
Thank You, Lord. ☀️
