1.8.2021 – Living in a World of “Funhouse” Mirrors

He knew it would be this way…

Living this life here,

in this kind of world,

in this day…

He knew that His people would be living here in “this“…. in the midst of all of “this“…. mirages, holograms, smoke and distorted mirrors, a crazy carnival-like “Funhouse.”

Schemes of deception. Attempts of destruction.

Our Heavenly Father knew that we would so desperately need to hear His voice, to see His face, to know when it’s Him, and when it’s not Him.

Guess what…

God wants His people to be able to see and know the true from the false.

Do you think He wants His people to be deceived?

No! Deception is the plan of the enemy!

So God told us about this “deception” ahead of time, and He has reminded us in His Word to “not be deceived” in this day…to beware of the false and the counterfeit…

Do you think the enemy wouldn’t be convincing?

The enemy is “skilled” at his slimy schemes…

God shows us in His Word that “not being deceived” is proactive…. that we must be positioned!

And He shows us how, how to position ourselves so that HE can prepare us and protect us from believing deception.

God shows us what we need to keep in mind, what we need to keep in our hearts.

…that we might stay so in tune with Him, that we might be able to see HIM clearly through the fog, through the holograms, through the smoke and mirrors in this crazy, carnival-like…

…You know, those crazy “distorted” mirrors that are there to “mess with your mind” in what they call a “funhouse”…

Mirrors that are designed to cause “distortion” of the truth… “distortion of perception”…

Designed to cause “disorientation and distraction”…

…a state of mental confusion. Even mental exhaustion.

This is what living in this world is like right now.

There are “mirrors” that have been strategically placed among us, these little “traps”… all over social media, all around us, wherever we go in our lives…

So how can we see what is really true?

How can we see beyond what we might be shown in these distorted “funhouse” mirrors?

How can we position ourselves to not be deceived?

Our God so faithfully prepares us in His Word…

Seek Him.

Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the LORD understand all things.” —Proverbs 28:5

“But from there, you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.”— Deuteronomy 4:29

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fearsThose who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” —Psalm 34:4-5

“For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel, “Seek Me that you may live.” —Amos 5:4-6

Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” —Proverbs 3:6

Look to Him. Keep our eyes on Him. Watch for Him!

He teaches us how to see as He sees, how to “see” beyond what we see with our physical eyes. And when we keep our eyes on Him, we’ll not lose sight of just much bigger and greater He is. We’ll not be consumed with what we see with our eyes, He is greater than anything we could ever face.

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”—Psalm 119:37

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding.”—Proverbs 3:5

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.“—Psalm 32:8

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”—1 Samuel 16:7

Pray continuously.

(Keep talking with Him, keep listening for Him, keep looking for Him!)

“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.“—Romans 12:12

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”—Philippians 4:6

Renew our minds in the Word. Keep our minds on HIM.

We need a “sound mind” in order to think the way we should think in this day.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”—Romans 12:2

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.“—Romans 8:5-6

Think on these things…

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”—Philippians 4:8

Remember, that God has made a way for His people to have a sound mind…

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”—2 Timothy 1:7 AMP

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”—Isaiah 26:3

Know God. Get to know His heart, His nature. Know His Word. Stand firmly on His Word.

“My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.”—Proverbs 4:20-22

“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.“—Psalm 91:4

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”—Psalm 119:105

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”—John 8:31-32

Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.” —Isaiah 49:23

The LORD is good to them that wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.” —Lamentations 3:25

“And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”—James 1:4

“You need to persevere, so that after you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.“—Hebrews 10:36

He’s going to use what He builds and grows in you!

Stand and Remember.

“You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”—Matthew 10:22

“Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand. Stand firm therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breastplate of righteousness…”—Ephesians 6:10-14

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”—Psalm 1:1-3

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”—Jeremiah 29:11

It may “seem” impossible… what what He promises IS possible! ?

Remove your eyes from the lies and fix your eyes on Him!

You’ll be so amazed at what you’ll so clearly begin to see… ☀️?

Thank You, Father. ? We may live in a world of “distorted funhouse mirrors” but You give us eyes to see, and You teach us how to position ourselves, that we may not be deceived! You are faithful, God!

  1. Wow! Thank you, Heather! It was time for bed, and I was foolishly looking at news feeds focusing on the chaos in our nation, at the rampant lies and deceit, and I felt afraid for our future. Then, I read your article about relying on God for sweet sleep, and I felt blessed by the reassuring Scripture you quoted!!God does sing over us, His beloved! Then I pressed the name of your blog and found your article about fun house mirrors, just brimming with the encouragement of God’s Word!! Thank you so much! We must keep looking to God: to our Mighty Abba Father, to our Savior Jesus, and to our Comforter and Counselor, the Holy Spirit!! Filled with His Presence and His Promises, I can now lie down in peace! May God richly bless you for serving others through Him!
