2.2.2021 – “Lord, am I more desperate for ‘understanding’ than I am for You?”

Have you ever found yourself so desperately attempting to grasp for some kind of “understanding“…

And then suddenly after a little while you realize that you’ve been reaching and striving so hard for this… “understanding“….

When God is simply asking you to,

“be still”

and

trust“…

and “know that He is God“…

We can find ourselves reaching and striving so obsessively and so desperately for the wrong things that we think we need

A desperation driven by the wrong kind of fear

And then we find ourselves fretting over a “conclusion” we’ve made with our own minds.

And we begin to think,

“It has to be this way”… because, “what other way could there possibly be? What other conclusion could I possibly come to in regards to this situation?”

Have you ever found yourself stuck in this kind of thinking before?

But then God so wonderfully surprises you… with HIS way…

And suddenly God sets you free and you realize you’ve been thinking completely inside of the tiniest little box

And you realize that you’ve been so “narrow minded” in this “understanding” that you’ve been reaching so desperately for in order to pull yourself out of this place of “unknown”…in order to have some sort of conclusion that you think might set yourself at ease.

Some kind of explanation….some kind of conclusion.

We like to “be in the know” don’t we?

I’m realizing that when I attempt to figure certain things out in order to make myself feel more certain and sure in times when I do not understand… what I’m really doing is I’m attempting to grasp for ANY KIND of “understanding” outside of something that God is wanting me to have in that moment in time.

Yes, we get to ask God for understanding, but He is the one who decides when we get to have it, when the time is right for it… and when our hearts are ready for it…

And so when I find myself in the place of so desperately attempting,

in my own way,

in my own thinking,

in my own “strength”...

In this great attempt of getting myself out of the uncomfortable place of “unknown”…

…all the while, God is wanting to teach me…

How to just,

“sit still”

and

“wait at His feet”

and “focus on Him.”

And while I’m reaching and attempting to force some kind of understanding into my mind that I’m believing will set me at ease…

It’s like He’s saying,

“I’ll be with you in the ‘uncomfortable unknown.'”

“Stop reaching and grasping for this ‘knowledge’ you seek, when I’m asking you to simply be still—and trust, and learn to KNOW that I Am God.”

“I am teaching you to trust and know My way.”

Remember

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts…”—Isaiah 55:8-9

“Great is our Lord and abundant in strength;
His understanding is infinite.”—Psalm 147:5

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”—Proverbs 9:10

“It is He who changes the times and the epochs;
He removes kings and establishes kings;
He gives wisdom to wise men
And knowledge to men of understanding
.”—Daniel 2:21

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”—Matthew 6:33 AMP

Thank You for the lessons, Father. If we would just listen, if we would just turn and look to YOU…. and seek You to KNOW You… then the understanding that we need, in precisely the time that we need it…. will come. You give us what we need, and You love us enough to NOT give us the things that would cause harm to our hearts and to our lives.

  1. God bless and greetings Heather,
    I’m wondering if I’m guilty of this lately. Probably so.? I really hate it when I get so sick I cant get up for days. ( Fibromyalgia) Cant find a doctor and allergic to the main medication that can help.
    I know God is doing a new work in me and I need to be patient. Spiritual warfare is important, I believe, especially when God revives a new spirit in us.
    “Be still and know”, is so powerful!!!! May God bless you always, and may you continue to enrich us with your gift of penmanship.
