“You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.“—1 John 4:4
“I write these things to you, dear children, because you truly have a relationship with the Father. I write these things, fathers and mothers, because you have had a true relationship with him who is from the beginning. And I write these things, young people, because you are strong, the Word of God is treasured in your hearts, and you have defeated the Evil One.“—1 John 2:14 TPT
This morning, as I am sitting here at the table,
I’m thinking about
“the Overcomers”…
When God designed us—His beloved adopted children…
He designed a place within each of us
where He, Himself would reside, through Jesus Christ…
that we would be able
to “overcome” in this life.
That we would be able to push through.
That we would be able to endure.
That even in our weaknesses, we would be made strong.
That even though our adversaries would fight against us, we would be made able to overcome.
No matter what could ever try to come against us.
IT DOES NOT MATTER.
God is bigger.
“Christ in us, the hope of glory.”
“Through You we will push back our adversaries;
Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us.“—Psalm 44:5
“They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.“—Jeremiah 1:19
To “overcome” means:
“to get the better of”
“to get the superiority”
“conquer, vanquish, defeat, subdue, reduce, overcome, overthrow mean to get the better of by force or strategy. conquer implies gaining mastery of. // subdue implies a defeating and suppression. // overcome suggests getting the better of with difficulty or after hard struggle. // overthrow stresses the bringing down or destruction of existing power.“
“…but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”—1 Corinthians 15:57
“But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”—Romans 8:37
And we don’t just “overcome”… His Word says that “we overwhelmingly conquer” through Him.
Isn’t it interesting how in this world, there are times we may feel so “defeated”—but the reality is, when we are in Christ, this is so far from the actual truth!
How the enemy will attempt to make us think we’re fighting a losing battle, but God says time and time again in His Word, that we have already been created…. to be overcomers, just as Jesus is.
To beat,
to conquer,
to defeat,
to dispatch,
to get around,
to master,
to prevail over,
to subdue,
to surmount,
to take back,
to triumph over,
to win…
This is what He had in His heart for us, when He designed us. 🌷💝✨🌈
This is what He has in His heart for us…right here and right now, right in the middle…
Even as we find ourselves in a battle, in a struggle, as we become tired from the wrestling through…
“He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall. But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.…”—Isaiah 40:29-3
“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.”—Revelation 17:14
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’”—Revelation 2:7
What is the opposite of “overcome“?
“to lose”
And He has promised us, that as His children, we do not lose,
but in Him, we OVERCOME!
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah is God’s spiritual child and has been fathered by God himself.… You see, every child of God overcomes the world, for our faith is the victorious power that triumphs over the world. 5 So who are the world conquerors, defeating its power? Those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”—1 John 5:1-5 TPT
Thank You, Father. 💝 You have designed us with the capacity to be able to “win” this race, as we run it, as we walk it, with You—whatever pace You choose. You know the perfect pace. Will You help us to discover, to realize, to see this “Overcomer” who lives within us—Christ in us, the hope of glory. 🗝☀️ Thank You, Lord Jesus. 💖 You make us “able” to be “overcomers” like You.
