Almighty God—Nurturer and Protector

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.“—Psalm 91:1

Did you know…

…that “The Almighty” is a name for God describing His dual roles as nurturer and protector?

The definition of “nurture” is:

“to supply with nourishment”

“to further the development of”

“training, upbringing”

It can mean to:

“advance, cultivate, encourage, forward, foster, further, incubate, nourish, nurse, promote”

When I think of God as “nurturer,” I think of this verse…

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].”—Psalm 147:3

This is our Heavenly Father’s heart for us! 💝

This is the heart of Jesus!

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed…”—Luke 4:18

When our Heavenly Father “nurtures” us…

He mends us.

He soothes us with the song of His heart.

He nourishes us with His Word and with His unconditional love.

He builds us up and encourages us—

…that we may be cultivated,

and made able to flourish,

and grow,

—that we may be able to thrive.

—that we may be so well “nourished” and “nurtured” by Him, that we’re able to live and to love from the overflow of His heart, through ours. 💗

Isn’t that a beautiful picture of who He is, as our Father— “The Almighty”— our “nurturer and our protector”…

Have you felt the tenderness of His presence as He nurtures and nourishes your heart? 💝

As His love begins to soothe your broken, wounded places…

As He mends and heals—and the tears come

As He speaks into

who we are, to Him

as His Daughters and Sons…

…as the overflow of His nurturing love is felt and experienced in our hearts. 💖

This morning, as I think on the “nurturing” heart of God, I’m reminded of these 10, brand new baby turkey chicks that just arrived in the mail yesterday.

Right now, they’re living with us in our living room… 🦃

And one thing I’ve noticed about these little ones… is they’re extremely needy—more-so than chickens. These baby turkeys are critically dependent on us humans to teach them that they need food and water. And so we have to show them where the water is, and we have to dip their beaks into the water so that they’ll recognize that it’s nourishing to them. We have to tap our finger into the food like their momma would do—to show them, to teach them— so they’ll be able to see that it’s food for them to eat, that they’ll be able to recognize that they need it in order to live, and to grow strong.

They have a deep need for nourishment. They have a deep need to be nurtured.

How our Father in Heaven nurtures and protects us. How He knows our needs. 🌳

He provides the nurture, and the nourishment that we need, so that we can be encouraged, and built up in His love.

He causes us to flourish. 🌱🌷🌺

that we may grow up to be

…ones who are able to nurture and to nourish… 💝☀️

Thank You, Father. 💝
