12.24.2021 – “To Say, or Not to Say?”

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night…

And maybe you don’t recall a dream,

but instead

you notice an interesting thought within your heart…

Something on your mind?

This doesn’t happen with me often,

but last night around 2:30 or 3 AM it did.

And it’s funny because when I jotted these thoughts down in the notes on my phone,

I thought, perhaps, not only is this for my own life,

a thing to keep in mind over the next few days

during this Christmas season and gatherings with loved ones,

but maybe it’s also something that I am to share on here as well.

So here it is, in case you would like to ponder this along with me. 💓

“To say or not to say?”

What is best to say?

And what is better left unsaid?

I think of two kinds of situations:

Times when there are things we want to say,

but they don’t need to be said—

they’re better left “unsaid”…

And then there are times

when there are things that need to be said,

but sometimes we don’t want to say them.

Maybe because it’s uncomfortable or we think it will be awkward,

or to be honest… it would make us have to go too far out of our way.

Here is my prayer:

God help us to be sensitive to the leading of Your Spirit,

help us to be responsive and obedient to Your leading…

as You guide us

in what is needed to be said,

and what is best left unsaid.

That we would not do damage to each other with our words,

but that we might speak LIFE into the things You desire to grow, God!

“There is one who speaks rashly like he thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”—Proverbs 12:18

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”—Colossians 4:6

“O Lord, keep our hearts, keep our eyes, keep our feet, and keep our tongues.” – William Tiptaft
